Los Angeles had won four in a row until it dropped a 90-87 decision to the Grizzlies Monday in the finale of a four-game homestand (3-1). Chris Paul led the way with 30 points and handed out 10 assists, while Jamal Crawford scored 15 points and DeAndre Jordan added nine to go along with 17 rebounds.
The game was tight throughout and a Paul turnover led to key foul shots by Grizzlies guard Mike Conley. Conley hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds on the clock to increase the margin to 90-87 and Los Angeles turned the ball over on its final possession.
Meanwhile, the Rockets know what it’s like to not have a force in the middle with center Dwight Howard nursing both an ankle and knee issue. Howard is not expected to contribute to Houston’s playoff run any time soon.

The Spurs have dropped three in a row during their Rodeo road trip, which only has two stops left after Wednesday. This odyssey began long before the All- Star break and the Spurs are 2-4 so far. They’ll visit Sacramento and Phoenix before returning home for six straight.
The Blazers have lost two in a row, one in Utah and another at home to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Both squads have fallen in the ultra-tough Western Conference standings. Portland has dipped outside the top four, which guarantees homecourt advantage in the first round. San Antonio is just 2 1/2 games ahead of the scorching-hot Oklahoma City Thunder for the seventh seed.
The Blazers have won two of three this season against the Spurs, who eliminated Portland in the second round of last season’s playoffs.
