WC group C:Godin sends Italy home,England and Costarica play a bore draw

England ended their World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw against surprise Group D winners Costa Rica
Costa Rica were the faster out of the two at the beginning and went close when Celso Borge’s free-kick was tipped on to the bar brilliantly by Ben Foster. England tried to penetrate and get through the Costa Rican defence, but found little luck.
The same style of play carried on through the rest of the first half and was not the most entertaining of displays.
After the second half England seemed to pick up the pace a little and went agonisingly close when Daniel Sturridge curled his shot inches wide of the post.
Substitute’s Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney made a slight impact with their arrivals to the game, with the latter forcing a good save from Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas with a clever chipped attempt.
Neither side really looked like scoring and a draw was a fair result. England take away at least one point from a dreadful campaign, while Costa Rica will be buzzing as Group D winners.

The 2014 World Cup claimed yet another major scalp as 2006 winners Italy exited the group stage for the second tournament running.
The Azurri needed a draw against Uruguay to qualify for the Round of 16, but failed to hang on to a 0-0 scoreline after Claudio Marchisio was sent off after an hour.
There was controversy as Chiellini claimed to be bitten by Suarez, but in the end it was Atletico Madrid defender and captain Diego Godin who nodded home to send Italy packing.
In 81th minute of the game Diego Godin jumps highest to meet the ball from a corner kick and finishes behind the helpless Buffon with a fine header, aiming into the bottom right corner. The defence are staring motionlessly at each other. What a peach of a goal that is. Diego Godin had every right to celebrate and all Uruguaians as well!
The goal clinched second spot in the group for Uruguay, behind surprise-first placed Costa Rica.
