Thursday night football – Colts vs Texans

The Houston Texans would really like to be able to put enough pressure on Andrew Luck to make him crack. But it isn’t likely that they are going to completely rattle the Indianapolis Colts quarterback, so they will have to get things done in other ways as they undertake to win against the NFL odds in Thursday night’s action, which gets underway at 8:30 PM ET at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Indy affected a series sweep last season, as the Texans were struggling with a lot of issues. But this season brought hope of a healthier and happier Houston club, and that has been partially true. They are indeed sitting with a 3-2 straight up record, with a mark of 4-1 against the football point spread. Meanwhile, the Colts have looked overwhelming at times on offense, and come into this contest at 3-2 SU as well, with the same 4-1 mark against the number.

The difference in this game might be in the quality of quarterback play. Both of these signal-callers can be error-prone, but Luck is the guy who stretches the field, while Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Texans is more limited in that regard.

Houston Texans +3 (-120)

Over 47 Points -110
Under 47 Points -110

The argument can be made, one supposes, that this game is more important for the Texans than last week’s Lone Star affair against the Dallas Cowboys, because this is a division game (AFC South). And these clubs are tied in the division race. Indianapolis spotted Houston a two-game lead at the outset when they dropped their first two decisions to the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles. But they’ve won three in a row, and it has been a combination of Luck’s clutch play and some great defense on their part, as America’s Bookie customers have noticed.

Houston thinks it may have what it takes to pierce that defense, as long as Arian Foster is healthy. Foster, who was limited in a couple of recent games, broke out for 157 yards against Dallas, and those who study the NFL odds know this takes on some added significance when considering that Fitzpatrick has thrown six interceptions in his last three games. When the former starter for the Bills and Titans was brought aboard, it was with the idea that he would be a steady veteran presence, bridging Houston over to whoever their next quarterback options was, whether that is rookie Tom Savage or somebody else. But when you throw picks, you defeat the purpose.
