Red hot Greinke to opt for a free agency next season ???

Zack Greinke has the ability to opt out of his contract and become a free agent after next season.

The right-hander admitted that what happens with Jon Lester and Max Scherzer, who will hit the open market this winter, will impact his decision.

“What happens with Lester and Scherzer will say a lot,” Greinke said.

Greinke would forfeit three years and $71 million if he opts for free agency after the 2015 season.

The 30-year-old is in the same age range as Lester, also 30, and Scherzer, who will turn 30 later this month.

Greinke signed a six-year, $147-million free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.

“There’s a lot of money in the game,” he said. “You don’t know how much money is actually in the game, or how much money the owners are making. Obviously, they’re making a lot. Salaries are going up.”
