The Montreal Canadiens finished dead last in the Eastern Conference last season but have morphed into a completely different team this year. They are now one of the best in the East and have even spent time atop the conference standings this week.
On Saturday, they’ll host the team that was posted as the Stanley Cup favorite on the NHL odds at the beginning of the season: the New York Rangers. However, the Rangers haven’t been consistent and have steadily declined. They are now at 14/1 to win the Cup while the Canadiens have climbed to 20/1.
Montreal already defeated New York once this week with a 3-1 result at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. The Rangers will try to get some revenge on Saturday night when they visit Montreal but they’ll need to generate more offense. While goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has done his part, allowing just 22 goals in his last 11 starts, the offense has once again let the team down. The Rangers scoring units will have to get going as they have netted the fourth-fewest goals in the East.
