The Indianapolis Colts will take on the Super Bowl runner up San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, but just because they made headlines with a blockbuster trade this week doesn’t mean the NFL odds will point in their favor. The home-side Niners hold a 10-point advantage on the Week 3 point spread.
With newly acquired running back Trent Richardson in tow, the Colts are even more of an imposing threat than they were last season when then-rookie quarterback Andrew Luck powered the franchise to a surprising playoff berth, but don’t expect a disgruntled San Francisco team to lay low after being dismantled on primetime television last Sunday night.
While the sky is the limit for the Colts in 2013, lined up against a proven, formidable contender in San Francisco, we may well see their limit.
The Niners have 8/1 odds of winning Super Bowl XLVIII because head coach Jim Harbaugh has made the Colin Kaepernick-powered squad just as prolific on offense as they’ve always been on defense. Having home-field advantage will only bump the 49ers’ NFL odds up at a pivotal point in their young season.
