Peyton Manning will make his return to Indianapolis this Sunday, touching down in Indiana with his undefeated Denver Broncos. Early NFL odds point to the visiting Super Bowl contenders as favorites in the contest, but with an inevitably fired up Colts crowd behind them, Andrew Luck and company could play spoiler.
While Manning’s departure had the makings of a disaster for Indianapolis, Colts executives can take solace in the fact that second-year quarterback Andrew Luck has come as advertised over the course of his brief career.
It may forever string to lose an icon of Manning’s caliber, but with a smart, talented and amicable replacement under center, the franchise has transitioned as well as anyone could hope.
The Colts may not top the NFL futures any time soon – as the Broncos currently do with 5/2 odds of winning the Super Bowl – but a second consecutive playoff berth is within reach nonetheless.
Can Luck throw a wrench in Manning’s textbook return by squeezing out a win? Even covering the 7-point spread would make for a game to remember.
