New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins – Sunday December 2, 2012 1:00PM EST
The New England Patriots have taken all of the fun out of the AFC East for the football betting crowd. Every year there is speculation on which AFC East team will rise up and knock the Patriots off the top of the standings, and every year the Patriots walk away with an easy AFC East title. For a couple of years, it looked like the Jets would rule the AFC East roost, but the Jets fell away. Now it looks like the young Miami Dolphins are ready to take on mighty New England for the divisional title. This game will show the world if Miami is really ready for the big time or not.
The Miami Dolphins has had an interesting 2012 season. The season started off with rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill winning the starting job and showing that he was the right choice all along. At running back, the sports betting experts cannot tell if Reggie Bush wants to be a featured running back or a diva a la Terrell Owens. Lately, it looks like Bush wants to become the feature back that Miami has always hoped he would be, and that is very good news for this young Miami Dolphins team.
New England Patriots
The Patriots have tight end Aaron Hernandez back in the lineup, but the team is still waiting on the return of tight end Rob Gronkowski. Until Gronk returns, the Patriots have been throwing the ball to wide receiver Wes Welker and running up the score on every team it plays. The sportsbook experts are impressed with some of the improvements that the Patriots have made on defense, but no one is really ready to call this a championship defense just yet. Then again, head coach Bill Belichick took the worst defense in the league to the Super Bowl last year. So any improvement on defense is good news for the Patriots.
The online football betting experts lowered their expectations for the Dolphins when Miami released troubled wide receiver Chad Johnson. It turns out that there was plenty of other talent on the team that just needed a chance to play. One of the big surprises this year out of Miami is how well the defense is playing. Few people expected the Miami secondary to be competitive, but it has shown that it can hold its own against any kind of competition in the league.
The Bottom Line
This game will be a lot closer than New England fans think it will be. While the Patriots have the distinct edge in offense, the Miami defense will be able to keep it close. The Miami offense will also be able to put up some points as well. Now Miami fan can ponder whether this is a team developing for greatness, or just a flash in the pan.
