The Royals return home to try to even the World Series while the Giants aim to clinch their third title in five seasons when the teams clash in Game 6. The Giants have scored the last 15 runs while winning two straight games to take a 3-2 lead and they’re looking to become the second National League team in history to win three titles in a five-year span. The Cardinals did that in 1942, ’44 and ’46.
These two teams split two games in Kansas City to begin the series, but the Royals believe they have an edge when playing at home and designated hitter Billy Butler (3-for-7) will be back in the lineup with the game taking place in an American League ballpark.
Hunter Pence has stepped up in a big way for the Giants, going 9-for-19 with a home run, six runs scored and five RBIs to become a series MVP contender along with Madison Bumgarner.
Jake Peavy (1-1, 3.68 ERA) vs. Yordano Ventura (0-0, 4.42 ERA)
Jake Peavy took the loss in Game 2, giving up four runs and six hits in five innings-plus. He is looking for his first World Series win, as he didn’t get a decision for the Red Sox in Game 3 last year.
Yordano Ventura didn’t get a decision in the second game, allowing two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings before the Royals used their hard-throwing relief trio of Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland in the 7-2 victory.
