With a pair of fresh faces making most of the headlines out of Turner Field this spring, the Atlanta Braves look like a formidable force in the National League East. Their 12/1 odds of winning the World Series suggest that they may be one of the darkhorse candidates MLB bettors keep their eyes on as the season reaches full swing.
The surprise most pleasant for the Braves has been the arrival of Justin Upton. After a down year with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the one-time MVP candidate has channeled his former self in his first few weeks with his new club.
Six home runs in his first seven games may not be enough to guarantee that the left fielder is officially back at the top of his game, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. The Braves, currently at the top of the NL East, certainly can’t complain.
Starting this Friday, Atlanta fans will get a prime opportunity to see just how this club stacks up against the best that the big leagues have to offer. Their Braves will take to the road for a three-game set with the MLB futures-leading Washington Nationals.
