The Royals avoided elimination with a convincing victory and now they host the Giants in a winner-take-all Game 7. The Giants could have won the series in six games but the Royals racked up 15 hits and rolled to a 10-0 victory. Giants ace Madison Bumgarner will be available as a reliever tonight as the Giants go for their third title in five seasons.
San Francisco hasn’t gotten strong outings from their starters when Madison Bumgarner doesn’t pitch and Jake Peavy lasted just 1 1/3 innings last night while being charged with five runs. The Giants also need Buster Posey to produce, as he is just 4-for-22 in the World Series and doesn’t have an extra-base hit in the postseason.
The Royals have won two of their three home games in the series as the lineup has a different feel to it with designated hitter Billy Butler, who was 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Game 6.
Tim Hudson (0-1, 3.72 ERA) vs. Jeremy Guthrie (1-0, 2.70 ERA)
Tim Hudson took the loss in Game 3 when he gave up three runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings in his first career World Series start. He has walked just one hitter in 19 1/3 postseason innings while striking out 15 but he is just 1-4 with a 3.53 ERA in 13 career postseason appearances (12 starts).
Jeremy Guthrie defeated Tim Hudson in Game 3 when he allowed two runs and four hits in five innings. He had never pitched in the postseason before this year but he is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two starts. Guthrie went 6-6 with a 4.25 ERA in 16 home starts in the regular season.
