The seeds have been announced and the 2013 NCAA National Tournament is set to begin in earnest this Thursday. With the results of the First Four coming in over the course of the week, hoops fans have already begun betting on March Madness and gearing up for the least productive work week of the calendar year.
Will it be the unheralded Gonzaga Bulldogs who set a program record coming out on top after becoming the first team in school history to rally for the No. 1 spot in the nation? The mid-major contender will be joined by the Big East’s Louisville (ranked No. 2, nationally), the Big 12’s Kansas (No. 3) and, out of the hard-fought Big Ten, No. 4 Indiana.
In addition to the hype from the coaches and media behind the polls, however, the same four contenders are mainstays at the top of any oddsmakers’ college basketball futures list as well. Currently the Hoosiers and Cardinals sit tied with 5/1 odds of winning March Madness outright.
Gonzaga and Kansas, in contrast, sit lower down that list at 10/1.
Standing to spoil the synergy of top seeds at the top of the moneyline is the No. 14-ranked Florida Gators, listed as the No. 3 seed in their south region (which they share with Kansas).
