Players from both sides have been turning up the heat ahead of the 39th Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club, which gets underway on Friday. Europe, who are favourites to retain the trophy, head into the clash with the USA as slight underdogs, with Brandt Snedeker, one of four American rookies, desperate to help his side win back the Ryder Cup. He told reporters: “I’m very, very competitive. I’m going to try to beat their brains in as bad as I can.” Snedeker’s verbal jousting was matched by Ian Poulter for the European team, with the Englishman putting friendships aside for the three days of competition. He added: “We are all good friends, both sides of the pond, but there’s something about Ryder Cup which kind of intrigues me. “How can you can be great mates with somebody, but, boy, do you want to kill them in Ryder Cup?”
