The NFL preseason rolls on beginning on Thursday with a slew of games as teams prepare for the regular season, while another type of football kicks off across the pond in England. Finally, the Sprint Cup series heads to Michigan for the second time this summer as we inch closer to the Chase.
There are still plenty of roster cuts to make as the NFL begins Week 2 of the preseason, but you can see a bit of the starters early in the game as they try to shake off the rust; many of last week’s matchups saw the starters play well into the second quarter. The schedule goes from Thursday to Monday, featuring Carolina-Philadelphia, San Francisco-Kansas City, Denver-Seattle, Indianapolis-New York Giants and Pittsburgh-Washington. NFL odds are up for all of the matchups.
Meanwhile in England, the Premier League season gets underway on Saturday, headlined by Manchester United-Swansea City. The champions begin their first season in the David Moyes era after he replaced legendary manger Sir Alex Ferguson, who finally retired. Arsenal-Aston Villa and Crystal Palace-Tottenham are other games of note in the sportsbook, while Manchester City-Newcastle wraps the first week of the season up on Monday.
There are four races left until the Chase for the Sprint Cup starts, so the betting odds are tightening up as the playoffs approach. The Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway will be the second time that the series revs their engines in the state known for its place in the automotive industry. Greg Biffle won the first race at MIS just under two months ago, and another victory would really cement his place in the Chase. Much of the pre-race attention will center around Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has won twice at Michigan since joining Hendrick and even though he is sixth in the standings, he would love nothing more than a victory.
