The NFL season is now in week eight, which means that most teams in the league are halfway to the finish line. Teams face a mixture of pressure and opportunity at this point in the season.
Buffalo Bills @ New Orleans Saints
This is a game the Bills will have a hard time winning, even though they’ve been playing really well under difficult circumstances. Buffalo nearly beat AFC North leader Cincinnati two weeks ago, and it knocked off the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday in Miami. Buffalo is surviving even with a quarterback who was not in the top three on the depth chart at the beginning of the season. Thad Lewis is winning the respect of his teammates with plucky and resilient performances. Can he go into New Orleans, however, and defeat Drew Brees? That will be a very tough task for the Bills.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (Game Played In London, England)
This is a game that probably won’t make a lot of new football fans in Great Britain. Wembley Stadium hosts another game this week, but it’s not likely to be all that competitive. The San Francisco 49ers have their share of weaknesses, and they aren’t as strong on offense as they were last season, but they should have far too much muscle for the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that could very well finish the season 0-16. Jacksonville’s defense might contain San Francisco, but the Jaguars might not score very much against the 49ers’ defense.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Oakland Raiders
This is a game that figures to be close, but one thing that has to be said is that the Steelers have won two games in a row and now have the belief that they can still contend for the AFC North title. Pittsburgh’s defense is putting the clamps on opponents, having allowed only one touchdown in the past eight quarters.
