The NFL season is headed toward the middle of November. Every team in the league has played at least eight games if not nine. Teams are going to stand on a ledge in terms of making the playoffs.
Carolina Panthers @ San Francisco 49ers
This has become a meaningful game for both teams, not just the 49ers. Yes, San Francisco is trying to catch the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West, but now Carolina has fully emerged as an NFC wild card contender, and moreover, the Panthers are also in the chase in the NFC South. They’re just one game back of New Orleans in the division, so this game against San Francisco has become a featured attraction in week 10 of the NFL season. Carolina has been feasting on bad teams, so the NFL will get to see how the Panthers match up against a member of the league’s elite. Cam Newton needs to play his best game against the Niners’ defense in this showcase confrontation.
Buffalo Bills @ Pittsburgh Steelers
This is a desperate battle between two teams that are almost certain to miss the playoffs. The Steelers were embarrassed by the New England Patriots, giving up 55 points in one of the worst performances in the history of the franchise. Pittsburgh’s players know that if they don’t play hard and well against Buffalo, jobs could be on the line relative to next season. The Bills have played hard in every game this season, but their injuries at quarterback have left their offense shorthanded.
Seattle Seahawks @ Atlanta Falcons
This is a highly intriguing matchup, because even though Atlanta is 2-6, the 8-1 Seahawks have struggled in recent weeks and were very lucky to avoid losing to the 0-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Seattle’s offensive line is a mess, and quarterback Russell Wilson isn’t protecting the ball. One can easily imagine a scenario in which the roused Falcons play one of their best games of the season and upset the Seahawks.
