JJ Redick has never missed a playoff in his career. After signing with Pelicans there are is a huge chance of that happening. Pelicans traded their franchise player Davis to Lakers for their whole young core excluding Kyle Kuzma only. The recent rumors are that a new trade talks between this two teams will happen as the Lakers are reportedly interested in trading exactly for Redick. The reasons for that are almost known to many people that understand the game. They want to bring shooting power to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. And who will fit better than Reddick in this situation.
JJ Reddick played with many franchise players during his career and he doesn’t mind to be a third or a fifth scoring option and he showed that in the past. He fits perfect with All Stars and they make him a better player allowing him and making space for his specialty – 3 pointers. On the other side of the court he has proven himself as a poor defender due to his age and size.
Latest rumors are that for getting JJ Redick , Lakers will offer Kentavious Pope and the 46th overall pick in 2019 Draft, Horton Tucker. If this happens it will be hard to pick a winner of this trade. JJ Redick is fine shooter and exactly what Lakers need, but Pope is also the same. Now a 3rd season as a Laker Kentavious Caldwel-Pope has proven himself as a loyal Laker despite being a trade talk material even since the first day he joined Lakers. Minding his own business and doing exactly what he is asked to do have earned himself sympathies by the Lakers fans. He definitely played well and proved himself as a pure 3 point shooter in the past 2 seasons for the Lakers and now that leaves the question why should they trade him for similar material? Giving away another rookie player in Horton Tucker will leave Lakers with no young talents in the next few years (they gave away all future picks and young core players for Davis) .
If happens, Lakers will likely to end up as a losers in this trade. New Orleans as a rebuilding squad based on the former Lakers trio with Ball,Ingram and Hart including number 1 pick of 2019 Draft Zion Williamson will add another young player in Tucker and will most probably try to trade or buyout Pope. In addition the relations between the two offices are not on a high level as Pelicans GM asked for 7 players and 5 future picks for Anthony Davis back in February this year. Failing to acquire a superstar for Magic Johnson led to resigning from his position as general manager with Lakers. At the end for this trade to happen which is unlikely they will also need cooperation from both Redick and Pope. Both players have contracts that can veto any trade and Pope will undoubtedly do exactly that if being traded.
