Boston Celtics @ Houston Rockets – Friday December 14, 2012 8:00PM EST
The betting world is starting to wonder if the Boston Celtics is just lying in wait for the playoffs to begin, or if this really as good as it will get for the Celtics this season. Since the start of the season, the Celtics has played .500 ball. In the last 10 games, Boston has amassed a 5-5 record. The team’s record for the season is 11-9. While this is a similar pattern to the one that Boston followed last season, it does have some fans wondering if the Celtics may not be able to rise to the occasion when the playoffs arise.
The online casino players wondered how the Houston Rockets would play this season after picking up guard Jeremy Lin and a couple of other pretty decent acquisitions. Unlike the Celtics, the Rockets appear to be improving at a decent pace and is currently playing better than its 9-11 record would indicate. Houston has been able to stay close in games against top opponents, and that is always a good sign for a team that is desperate to make the leap to a playoff contender. Houston may still need a few pieces before it can become a team to be reckoned with, but it is making plenty of trouble for opposing teams at this point in the season.
If you bet on sports, then you are aware of how veteran teams play the regular season. Winning the division is not really important and getting home court advantage for the first round or two would be nice, but making the playoffs is imperative. The Celtics has no major injuries and is struggling to win games against better opponents. No Boston fan in his right mind is going to panic at this early stage of the season. But if things do not get better in Beantown, then the Celtics may start to spark concern among the faithful.
The online sportsbook experts expected absolutely nothing from the Rockets this season because, frankly, no one believed that Jeremy Lin could re-create what he did in New York after he moved to Houston. But Lin has proven to be a consummate team leader and the kind of guard that Houston can build a team around. The entire team has been gaining in confidence as the season has worn on and Houston could only be a player or two away from being a playoff team.
The Bottom Line
Boston is not going to panic, but it seems as though the Celtics is ready to make this a really long season for its fans. As long as Boston makes the playoffs, then everything should be just fine. The Rockets need a marquee win to really boost its confidence and this game with the Celtics presents an ideal opportunity.
